Yesterday was the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
In my opinion, it should be an everyday acknowledgement and remembrance to be kinder, certainly more tolerant and respectful.
We all bear challenges daily, all of us in different manners and many visibly so.
As a commuter and a people watcher, it pains me to see the lack of tolerance towards others. My pet peeve? Taking a parking bay reserved for the physically challenged. The young man yesterday morning, was callously thoughtless as he snuck into the bay before a lady. Chivalry aside, he was oblivious to his actions. I’m not given to road rage but I was seething. I can only imagine how the lady felt hobbling around with the aid of a stick after finally securing another parking spot.
Yesterday evening, I was devastated to see a video doing the rounds of two men fighting for a parking space. In the breath of a moment, a shot was fired and a life lost. Yes, that actually happened. No, I have no intention of forwarding the video. Yes, people need to know about these occurrences but senseless behaviour and disregard for life, is appalling.
As December arrives, with the busyness of the festive season, especially with the retail sphere in mind, let us all try and remember to be tolerant and kinder to each other. Let the true spirit of our selves and Christmas reign.
