Irish Cream by swo8 Blues Jazz// swo8

This is something new I was working on and I found that the Irish lyrics really went well with it, hence the video of Ireland. In the spring of 2005 we scored a good deal to spend a week in Ireland. It came with a car rental an all accommodation in B & B’s. After many years of violence, Ireland had come to some resolution, so we were less worried about getting caught in the cross fire of a revolution. We landed in Belfast and drove to Dublin, Waterford, Cork and Kinsale and back to Belfast: The Murals of Belfast depict the region’s past and present political and religious divisions. In 2005 George W. Bush was President of the United States of America and the US was still engaged with the war in Iraq. I was taken aback by his presence in one of the murals seen near the end of the video. The photos were taken by be me. 5:36 min.

Forgive Me Father // The Lonely Author

This is dedicated to all my haters. Please watch your step as you form an orderly line. You truly are number one. (Wanna guess which finger I’m extending?)

.

Forgive Me Father

.

Forgive me Father
For I am guilty of love
Come and be the judge
Like your modern day preachers
Orating sermons of black sludge

Little green skinned disciples
Claws preaching on holy keyboards
Judging all of your children
Clinging tight to Bibles
As they cast the first stone

Father you always taught love
Now sacred hypocrites spew hatred at the pulpit
For when they are not walking on water
These predators must be
Slithering on hallowed ground

Father, my debauchery warrants punishment
Banish me to Satan’s dark inferno
While I’m there, what should I tell
All of these judgmental disciples
When I bump into them in the bowels of hell.

.

.

Karma is a bitch.

LES MUGUETS BY L. MARTEL

swo8

This is an 8″ x 10″ oil on canvas called Les Muguets or Lily of the Valley. It was inspired by a photo taken by dreamymichaela.wordpress.com earlier this year. It is finished now as I added the drop of due on the leaf. My garden is full of Lily of the Valley and it emits a heavenly scent. I’m thinking about the Spring filled with the beauty and the scent of Les Muguets.                                                                                                                                               As an up date on my…

Young Girls Rise

Brenda Davis Harsham

Yellow rose

Acevedo’s words wake my inner girl,
that angry, confined, injured girl
who broke free of youth, rose up,
and found that her bruised layers
still contained satin petals
ready to bloom in a bit of sun
in every color of joy and love.

Notes: This poem flowed from my admiration for a three-minute PBS News Segment: This poet wants brown girls to know they’re worthy of being the hero (Poet: Elizabeth Acevedo) and the New York Times article: A Young Poet’s Inspiration (Poet: Amanda Gorman, National Youth Poet Laureate). To all the young girls over the world finding their voices, your calls are heard by those of us whose inner girls still aspire, still remember. We women hear, admire and relate.

Thanks to Ramona who led me to Acevedo’s piece with her lovely poem, Overheard from the Kitchen Table.

Happy Poetry Friday and thanks to Amy Ludwig VanDerwater at the Poem Farm for hosting! I announced yesterday that I participated in Tabatha’s Mistake Anthology.
