I Allow Myself Poetry

Paper Pencil Life

I allow myself poetry
I’ve said this before, but poetry is probably the largest influence on my comics.  What I feel and experience in reading my favorite poems is what I hope to express in comics.  The poet Dorothea Grossman is up there for me in terms of guiding this idea.  I so wish I had VOLUMES of her work instead of the slim selected poems that was published shortly after her death.  The poem that I mention in the comic is called “I Allow Myself” and you can find it here along with many others and a couple of podcasts that feature her work.  I also want to note that I misquoted her poem in the comic.  It should read: ” I allow/ myself the luxury of breakfast/ (I am no nun, for Christ’s sake.)”

I am a proud subscriber of Poetry Magazine and still an avid listener of the podcasts.  I *still* have…

Feng Shui for Book Lovers: How to Pare Down a Library

Where's Dash? My kids seem to tolerate mess more than I do these days. Where’s Dash? My kids seem to tolerate mess more than I do these days.

Last month I decided once and for all that I was going to either get rid of some books or embrace what my life was becoming: a Grey Gardens kind of gorgeous.

As a writer, I had long taken solace in studies linking messiness to creativity. Oh the ways old magazines, paper clips, half-open books, unanswered mail and yesterday morning’s cereal bowl must be sparking fireworks in my brain! But with three other people in the house, and overflowing bookshelves set to topple, the center could no longer hold. All I yearned for was an empty room, maybe some curtains billowing from a sun-drenched window. Faced with this impossibility, I found myself, over the past several weeks, becoming one of those people who can’t stop talking about feng shui.

You know feng shui. The ancient Chinese…

On dit que l’effraie (Jean Follain)

Arbrealettres

On dit que l’effraie
boit l’huile aux lampes du sanctuaire
dans les églises du village;
elle entre par le vitrail brisé
dans ces heures de nuit
quand les bons et les violents s’endorment
quand l’orgueil et l’amour s’épuisent
quand le feuillage rêve.
La bête réchauffe son sang
avec l’huile éclairant et vierge.

“The Sorcery Of Our Story” by A Shade Of Pen & TooFullToWrite

A Shade Of Pen

So, it is no surprise that I love habits and traditions. We just made it a tradition to write a duet every NAPoWriMo. I absolutely adore writing with David Ellis because he is a conjuror who brings words to life. He makes me sure that my fetish for British people is justified 😀

The leaves ruffle in the air

Even the wind seems to be humming our song

The melody carries me on the wings of angels

Straight to the first time

When my eyes fell upon you

A spell was cast that day

One of gorgeous light, dispersing the darkness

The veil had been lifted

Life had revealed a divine gift for us to cherish

A hundred thoughts

Buzzed into my mind’s honeypot

Was this all just a lucid dream

Woven into the fabric of space and time

Or a fragile vase poised to shatter

And…

”Do you know who is the bankrupt? …/…”Müflis kimdir, biliyor musunuz?…/…Happy Weekend to All my Dear Friends ツ 💗

Semra nice post: They say the meek will inherit the earth and so it shall be. The thin cows and the fat cows were seen by Nebuchanezer in a dream and it would mean – those that have would have less and those who have need who have their share.
The King who had the dream sat on the throne in the place of Kirkuk (place of the anti-christ Saddam Hussein0 and the Tower of Babel where God asked Nimrod to build a tower just for him and him alone. Only when persuaded to break his promise to God and turn to making money and become a fat cow – did it all go wrong.

So it is and will be at the end. Amen.

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“Do you know who is the bankrupt?” They said: “The bankrupt among us is one who has neither money with him nor any property”.

He said: “The real bankrupt of my Ummah would be he who would come on the Day of Resurrection with Salat (prayer), Saum (fast) and Sadaqah (charity), (but he will find himself bankrupt on that day as he will have exhausted the good deeds) because he reviled others, brought calumny against others, unlawfully devoured the wealth of others, shed the blood of others and beat others; so his good deeds would be credited to the account of those (who suffered at his hand). If his good deeds fall short to clear the account, their sins would be entered in his account and he would be thrown in the (Hell) Fire”.
