Annie Jump Cannon Gets Google Doodle On 151st Birthday

Cannon was an astronomer whose work was considered instrumental in the development of contemporary stellar classification. She, along with Edward C. Pickering, is credited with the creation of the Harvard Classification Scheme. This is said to be the first “serious attempt” to organize and classify stars based on temperature.

Cannon’s astronomy career spanned 40 years, and during that time, helped women gain respect within the scientific community. She died in 1941, the year after she retired. The American Astronomical Society presents an award in her name to female astronomers each year.

Space has been of particular interest lately when it comes to Google doodles. The company recently ran one to celebrate the Philae probe, which soft-landed on a comet.

Found Out

To date, not much has changed on how people interact with one another. Except for the appearance of new technology which the young generation, like the rest of the world, takes advantage of to communicate, most of the residents still talk in person whenever possible.

I had a lot of funny episodes about old (a bit older than me) people learning to use the new technology for the first time. Since I was one of the first to use a cellular phone back then, most of them saw me as an expert of sort. They gravitated to me when they got confused beyond the call feature.

There’s one story that took the cake so to speak. I was present when it happened, right behind the action.

A general assembly was at hand where the agenda was something about the approval of a particular quarry site. The groups of the pros…

Gulf Women in Photos

Sweden and the Middle East Views

Women from the Gulf are not very common in media and an ordinary image of a Gulf woman is her dressed in nikab and abaya, not doing anything in particular.

My Kuwaiti friend who is so dedicated in showing the world different sides of the Gulf shared these photos with me. The explanations for the photos is from him and I have sometimes found more information about a certain person myself. He himself doesn’t have copyright has but downloaded then from different websites and shared them via his own social media. Therefore the copyright is unknown.

Enjoy the view of different beautiful women in different aspects of life.

Ibtisam Lufti, Saudi Arabian singer. Ibtisam belonged to the first generation of Saudi singers and achieved great success and popularity despite her handicap of being blind. Her main career took place in the 1970s and -80s and when announcing that she…

#AceFriendsNews – Featured Post:Dec.11 – Is not Allah sufficient for His Servant ? & Genügt Allah nicht für Seinen Diener? & Allah Kuluna Kâfi Değil Mi?

At times …

… When you feel…

… At the end of your rope …

… Trapped …

… And depressed …

What should you do?

Cry in despair?

Get angry?…

And turn into a monster?

Get drunk?

Take drugs?

Even if you feel…

… Very sad …

… Like a fool …

… Lonely…

… Guilty …

… Afraid …

… And inferior …

Remember …

… That there is SOMEONE …

… who really Cares for you …

Looking after

… really Loves you …

Guess who ?!!

ALLAH Jalla Jalaluhu (May His Glory Be Glorified)

Semras, ALLAH

Bazı zamanlarda,
.. kendini yolun sonuna gelmiş hissettiginde, hapis, depresyonda yapardın?
..çaresizlik icinde aglar mıydın!
..sinirlenip bir canavaramı dönüşürdün!
..sarhoş mu olurdun?
..uyuşturucu mu alırdın?

Kendini Üzgün,…
..Yalnız ,
orda Biri var, Gerçekten seni umursayan,
ve sürekli seni izleyen

ve gerçekten seni seven biri.

Bil bakalım, Kim?

ALLAH Azze Ve Celle

Semras, ALLAH

Is not Allah sufficient for His Servant [Prophet Muhammad]?
Genügt Allah nicht für Seinen Diener?
Is Allah niet toereikend voor Zijn dienaar?
¿No basta Alá a Su siervo?
Non basta forse Allah al Suo servo !
Acaso, não é Deus suficiente Custódio para o Seus servo?
Allah ne suffit-Il pas à Son esclave [comme soutien] ?
“Allah Kuluna Kâfi Değil Mi?”

Memorable Travels of 2014

#AceFriendNews – Memorable Travels of 2014 by a great writer Indah #AceMustRead

indahs: dive, travel & photography

Year 2014 is near to end. I did travel this year as holiday and overall I enjoyed my break from the office routines. Those traveling days are now just memories and they are not forgotten. In this post, I would like to summarize the travels in 2014 and shared my favorite travel pictures that perhaps you have not seen yet.

I spent the first day of year 2014 by scuba diving in the waters surrounding Bangka Island, North Sulawesi (Indonesia). For the first time I saw pink hair squat lobster, would anyone believe that in this world actually exist a hairy lobster with pink color? And one of my favorite underwater pictures includes a funny “jumping” shrimp with eggs on her head or maybe it was her brain?

Sadly some part of the island is now mined and the latest update I received from friends in Bangka Island, the…

I would like to start out by saying that there were a few summer help that I thought were very intelligent and goodhearted people.  A dear friend of mine named Tim Flowers, who was a friend that I met while attending Oklahoma University my first year in school, was one of the smartest people you might run across in your lifetime.  He was also a very hard worker who didn’t mind putting his entire effort into his work.

A Power Plant Backstabbing Experience — Repost

Power Plant Men

Originally posted December 7, 2013:

Usually when I write a Power Plant Man post, the story is about the Power Plant Men and Women I worked with during the 20 years I spent at the Coal-fired Power Plant in North Central Oklahoma.  Today’s post, however, is more about a particular experience I had during this time period.  Some Power Plant Men at the plant were witnesses to the events, but for the most part, this was personal.

This story begins early in the morning on New Years Day 1987.  Some time around 3:00 am.  I woke up suddenly in the middle of the night from the bed where I was sleeping at my parents house in Stillwater, Oklahoma where my wife and I were visiting on New Year’s Eve.  It felt as if someone had crept into my room and stabbed me in the back with a knife!

I jumped…
