In a room there were four candles burning. The ambiance was so soft you could hear them talking.

The first one said, “I am PEACE, however nobody can keep me lit. I believe I will go out.”

It’s flame rapidly diminishes and goes out completely.

The second one says, “I am FAITH. Most of all I am no longer indispensable, so it does not make any sense that I stay lit any longer.”

When it finished talking a breeze softly blew on it putting it out.

Sadly, the third candle spoke in its turn. “I am LOVE. I have not gotten the strength to stay lit. People put me aside and don’t understand my importance. They even forget to love those who are nearest to them.” And waiting no longer it goes out.

Art on Tuesday: Best Wishes for the New Year

Japan Kaleidoskop

threedreams
This ukiyo-e by Kitagawa Utamaro 喜多川 歌麿 (1753- 1806) is about hatsu yume, the first dream of the New Year. It is a good sign, if you dream of one of the following three items:  ichi-fuji, ni-taka, san-nasubi, that is:  first about Mount Fuji, second about a hawk and third about an eggplant. If you have one of these auspicious dreams, you will have a good year!

Thank you for the pleasure of your friendship and goodwill during the past year. I wish you a wonderful holiday season and a New Year full of happiness and prosperity.

Perhaps I am not doomed after all!), ummm, as I was saying, I figured if I made a grand announcement to my friends and family I’d be forced to write, else I may be banished to the Forest Of Lying Liars Who Lie, Unintentionally Or Not.

I unintentionally lied.
Because I didn’t write. {imagines finger-pointing and ridicule as I’m led in shackles toward the center of a crowd full of mask-clad…uh, wait, that’s another ‘nother story, with a different rating}

See, I lived inside my own head for so long, writing and writing yet…

FREEDOMS

It is the police officer – not the reporter, who protects freedom of the press.

It is the police officer – not the poet, who guards our freedom of speech.

It is the armed police officer, training in the use of deadly force, ready to defend the innocent against aggression and the weak against the violent, standing ready to serve and protect even with his life if necessary.

It is the police officer who preserves your rights to keep and bare arms. It is the police officer – not the politician, who insures freedom of assembly.

It is the police officer – not the campus organizer, who safeguards the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the police officer – not the defense attorney, who reads Miranda warnings and informs defendants of inalienable rights.

It is the police officer who is willing to disclose all evidence, even evidence which may weaken…
